Marine Biology Courses:

keyhole limpetHopkins Marine Station offers a Marine Biology curriculum in the Winter, Spring, and Summer Quarters. These courses (open to students in all majors) expand the coverage of subjects basic to all biological and environmental sciences and provide upper-level undergraduate and graduate students with courses in a variety of topics related to life in the oceans.

Why should I Go To Hopkins?

In some respects, the curriculum at Hopkins is analogous to attending one of Stanford's overseas campuses: students take up residence in Pacific Grove and spend an entire quarter studying aspects of biology that are not available on the main campus.

THE 2007-08 SCHEDULE
[grayed out courses are not offered this year]
Satisfies BioSci Menu Requirement: [O] Organismal [E] Ecology and Evolution [C] Cell/Development

AUTUMN QUARTER

BIOSCI 3 Frontiers in Marine Biology (1 unit) Hopkins faculty (taught on main campus)
BIOSCI 8 Frontiers in Organismal Biology (1 unit) Hopkins faculty (taught on main campus)
SOPHCOLL 10SC Natural History, Marine Biology and Research (2 units) Thompson

WINTER QUARTER
- Deadline for application is November 15, 2007
BIOHOPK 161H/261H Invertebrate Zoology (5 units, lab) [O] Watanabe
BIOHOPK 163H/263H Oceanic Biology ( 4 units) [E] Denny, Somero
BIOHOPK 164H/264H Marine Botany (5 units) Connor
BIOHOPK 166H/266H Molecular Ecology (5 units, lab) Palumbi
BIOHOPK 169H/269H Neurobiology and Behavior (5 units, lab) [O] Thompson

BIOHOPK 186H/286H Ocean Pollution: Land, Air, and Sea Interactions (3 units) Epel
BIOHOPK 268H Molecular Ecology Data Analysis (2 units) Palumbi
The Winter Quarter curriculum provides an excellent preparation for the Spring courses, and the two quarters taken together provide a student with a unique opportunity for in-depth study of life in the oceans.
